I work for an IT consulting firm, we recently had a client that acquired another one of our clients, they want to migrate themselves from Google G Suite to Office 365 for email. No problem, sales sells 10 licenses for Exchange Online as the customer states they only want email.
Fast forward 1 week, I have purchased all the licensing and have the migration ready to start syncing mail. The client emails me to ask “What will happen to all of our stuff in Google Drive? We don’t see a plan to migrate it and we don’t want to pay for both G Suite and the Office 365 licensing.
This is the first I have heard about them using the full Google G Suite and not just email. I inform the client I will check with the sales team to verify what they sold (Because God forbid we have an engineer look over projects prior to selling them, or make a SOW on what we are doing.) I contact the rep who quoted and sold the project asking how they want to handle this, sell the full office suite and move their Google Drive data to OneDrive/Sharepoint, or tell them we are only doing the email.
The response I get is this “He didn’t want to pay for the full Office suite, so we only did email. ? sorry I don’t have a good answer for you.”
Go get and answer. I didn’t sell it and I don’t want to be the one to go to the client and say “Looks like you are paying for both services, or you can cancel the project” I’m not sales and it’s not my mistake, I don’t want to have to clean it up.

Having worked for a company similar to your own (albeit one where usually an engineer or PM or someone generally involved in order fulfillment reviews deals before they are booked) this sounds like a time to go to a sales manager person and get them to sort it out.

job related rant:
I had 2 meetings yesterday with my boss and clients.
Meeting #1, by boss answers his cellphone and leaves the meeting. while I can handle 95% of this myself, he has opinions and 5% that needs to be discussed during the meeting. He came back 15 minutes later. Client was not amused.
Meeting #2, boss read and responded to an email while the client was tlaking to him. He looks up with a dumb look on his face and goes ‘huh whatd you say?’ Client was not amused.

That’s the jist of what I replied with, we will see how that goes. Sometimes I really just want to go work for a large corporation and be a drone working in 1 little silo of IT.
